: All research activities conducted in this study were approved by the relevant institutional ethics committees and permitting authorities. Collaring procedures were carried out with ethical approval from the University of Bristol (UIN: UB/10/045) for the Cederberg, the Rhodes University Animal Ethics Committee (ZOOL-02–2010) for the Little Karoo, and the University of Cape Town Ethics Committee (2012/V34/JOR) for the Boland. Collaring permits were granted by CapeNature under permit numbers AAA-004–00592-0035, 0056-AAA004-00003, AAA007-00035–0056, and AAA007-00146–0056. All other methodologies were conducted under permit number CN44-87–15897, issued by CapeNature.
