Declarations
:
: No potential conflict of interest was reported by the author. The views expressed in this article are those of the author and do not necessarily reflect the positioning of the International Committee of the Red Cross.
: No institutional ethics committee was in place at the University of Fribourg at the onset of my research project (September 2015). However, I followed the American Anthropological Association (AAA) Principles for Professional Responsibility in my study. All participants were informed about the study goals, affiliation and funding, methodology and ethical commitments, including the use of pseudonyms and confidential data treatment. I obtained voluntary and informed consent from all participants and asked them to sign a consent form to audio record interviews. I only observed public events that do not require informed consent but I introduced myself as a researcher to the ICRC recruiters.
