: From 2016–2021, the first author (Koch) was employed at the TUM Chair of Forest and Environmental Policy through which she entered the field of forest governance research and built relations with scholars in the field. Another author (Uisso) is a forest governance researcher himself and works at a pertinent forest research institute. Both has helped to gain access to some of the collaborative projects studied.
