: I hereby state that the present paper is partially based on the results presented in my PhD dissertation with the title <i>Descripción y análisis de los elementos no verbales en</i> L’Assommoir <i>de Émile Zola y</i> La Desheredada <i>de Benito Pérez Galdós</i> (2017), which is written in French and Spanish. I reduce the focus of my research to the representation of the human beast and add Stephen Crane as a representative of the American Naturalism, in order to carry out an in-depth comparative study of this phenomenon in the selected texts.
