Declarations
:
: Ethical clearance for this study was granted by the Human Research Ethics Committee (Non-Medical) at the University of Witwatersrand, dated April 19, 2024, with ethical number H24/04/07 (Appendix 1). Potential participants were provided with an information sheet to review before giving verbal consent. Those who agreed to participate were then asked to provide informed consent before the interviews began. This consent process ensured that participants understood their involvement was entirely voluntary, with welfare services available if needed due to the sensitive nature of the questions and the participants’ social status (disability). It was emphasized that participants could withdraw from the study at any time without any consequences. Additionally, participants were informed that the study results would be published in an anonymous form in academic journals. All data collection processes and methods used in this study adhered to the ethical principles outlined in the Declaration of Helsinki [].
