: All animal handling was conducted by professional veterinarians following the guidelines for capture, handling and physical/chemical immobilization of wild mammals suggested by Kreeger et al. () and Sikes and the Animal Care and Use Committee of the American Society of Mammalogists (). When it was necessary to take blood, hair, or tissue samples for parallel studies, it was done under the Mexican scientific collection permit number SGPA/DGVS/003615/18, SGPA/DGVS/10246/19.
