: The research was implemented in compliance with the US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulations for the protection of human subjects. A research license was obtained prior to fieldwork from the Kenya National Committee for Science, Technology, and Innovation (NACOSTI). The study protocol, consent documents, and survey instruments were reviewed and approved by the institutional review boards of the International Policy Research Institute and the University of Nairobi prior to implementation.
: Informed consent to participate was obtained from all study participants prior to data collection. All participants were provided with a copy of the informed consent documentation. This included contact information for local authors in case of concerns and for contact persons at both IFPRI and the University of Nairobi’s institutional review boards.
: Participants were informed that all data collected from them would be anonymized prior to publication and that the research team would work to ensure personally identifiable information remained confidential.
