Regarding informed consent, the patients’ right to opt-out was published on Hiroshima University’s website to offer the patients an opportunity to reject the offer to participate in the study. As already existing documents, such as medical records, were used in this research study, the study posed no physical danger or burden on the participants; nonetheless, the data were anonymized before analysis, the correspondence table was stored with password protection in a personal computer without outside connection, and personal information was carefully handled.
