Declarations
:
: This study received funding from a non-profit organization (Pronatura Noreste, A.C.). At the time of conducting this research, two of the authors were employed by the same organization. However, we assert that our results, interpretations, and conclusions were not influenced in any way due to the co-authored process.
: During our human subjects’ study, we committed to uphold the highest ethical standards. From the beginning of the research project, we recognized cultural differences, particularly in Mexico, where individuals may prefer not to sign formal documents due to potential misuse of their signature. For the multi-stakeholder workshops, we ensured that participants provided explicit verbal approval, emphasizing open and transparent communication, since signed consent is not a requirement at our institutions and by the funding agency. We provided comprehensive information regarding the purpose, potential risks and benefits, and their rights as research participants, allowing them ample opportunity to ask questions and seek clarification. Privacy protection was fundamental throughout the study. We strictly upheld confidentiality and anonymity, implementing security measures to safeguard any sensitive information shared. By aligning with cultural preferences while adhering to ethical protocols, we generated reliable and meaningful results while upholding the dignity and autonomy of all the participants.
