: This study was approved by the Curtin University Human Research Ethics Committee (Reference Number: HRE2019-0384). Prior to each focus group, written consent was obtained from each participant. Consent for a phone interview was obtained via phone and then in person.

Professor Jeffrey Hughes is one of the co-inventors of PainChek®, the Chief Scientific Officer of PainChek Ltd (formerly known as EPAT Technologies Ltd), and a shareholder in the company.
