Declarations
: This article draws on the fieldwork performed during Francesca Cimino PhD research thesis about the identification of female victims of trafficking in Italy and Greece, of which Paola Degani has been the supervisor. Francesca Cimino was granted a scholarship from the University of Padua to perform her PhD research and thesis.
: The authors have no relevant financial or non-financial interests to disclose.
: The Institutional Ethic Review Board was not present at the Human Rights Centre of the University of Padua, the official body responsible for this study. Therefore, we cared about the ethical issues following the 2013 WMA Declaration of Helsinki’s guidelines, the 1947 Nuremberg Code, and the 1979 US Department of Health & Human Services Belmont Report. Moreover, we also observed the EU General Data Protection Regulation 2016/679 (GDPR) and, therefore, the national laws that are the transposition of the EU regulation.
: All participants were volunteers, and the terms and characteristics of the study were explained in the consent form that we asked the interviewees to sign before starting the interview. The consent form had some elements of the research ethics code, such as the topic of the interview, the number of interviews planned, the possibility of interrupting and suspending the interview without causing any harm, the possibility of skipping some questions if the participant did not want to talk about it.
