: This research has been developed within the research projects “LGBTIQ + representation in Spanish fiction series and the effectiveness in reducing prejudice based on sexual orientation and gender identity” (LGBTIQ + screens, PID2019-110351RB-I00), funded by the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation, and “Resignifications of LGTBIQ + memories and heritage: voices and silences” (MEMODIV + , PID 2023-151409NB-I00), funded by the Spanish Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities.
: The authors have no competing interests to declare that are relevant to the content of this article. Verbal informed consent was obtained prior to each one of the interviews with the five female directors. All participants volunteered without receiving compensation, motivated by the belief that the knowledge generated by this research would benefit society.
: The participants were contacted by email and agreed to be interviewed. When contacting them by email and at the beginning of each recorded conversation, it was explained that the interviews were conducted for research purposes: due to the prominence of the interviewees as filmmakers and the fact that they had publicly identified as queer individuals in various media, they would be identified by name in the academic publication resulting from the analysis of the interviews: therefore, they gave their consent for the use of identifiable personal data. During the whole process, the interviewees showed great willingness and interest in helping to develop this research, especially because of their commitment to defend the rights and freedoms of queer people and to make more visible the work of queer female filmmakers. For all the reasons stated above, the study complies with relevant ethical standards.
