: This study was conducted on material obtained from privately owned animals. The owners provided their verbal consent for swabbing their pets. Collection of samples was carried by a veterinarian adhering to the regulations and guidelines on animal husbandry and welfare. According to the opinion of the Local Ethics Committee, the procedure described in the manuscript (collecting swabs from the oral cavity of guinea pigs) has no hallmarks of an animal experiment and is beyond the jurisdiction of the Committee.
