: This project collects only general knowledge about plants, defined as any uses that could be expected to be known by a broad cross-section of knowledgeable participants. To catalog this information, we followed a series of protocols that ensured that permissions were obtained from traditional leaders, state and national officials, village leaders, and family members (see “Methods” section for full details). The research and methodology for this project was reviewed by the Institutional Review Board of Swarthmore College (where co-author Harrison was affiliated from 2016 to 2023) and an exemption from further review was granted.
