: The survey was ethically approved by the Institutional Ethics Committee of Madras Diabetes Research Foundation vide letter number MDRF/NCT/02-08/2018, dated 2 March 2018. Formal permissions were taken from the state health authorities before the survey initiation. Informed consent was taken from all the participants before initiating the interview and drawing their blood samples. All participants with abnormal biochemical profiles were ensured the standard of care by linking them to the nearest government health centre pre-defined in the protocols. The original survey was conducted in accordance with the Declaration of Helsinki.
