: Ethical issues arising from studying cremated human remains have been considered. The studied individuals are deceased over 2500 years ago and have no concrete links to the living by ties of affection, kindred or community. The human bone assemblages have been recovered primarily during rescue excavations, osteological assessment and analysis. Human remains were treated with respect and in full awareness that bodies of past people were used as sources of information. The research processes was documented and transparency and fair attribution of authorship followed according to the Guidelines for Good Scientific Practice by the Austrian Agency for Research Integrity.
