: Ethical approval was granted by a local Institutional Ethics Committee in Odisha and by the author’s institutional ethics committee. The ethical application was led by IDS and developed collaboratively with the Azim Premji Philanthropic Initiative (APPI) India and DCor. Data collection did not involve collection of biological samples, use of biometric testing or anthropometric measurements so the overall risk of possible harm or discomfort was considered low. All files and digital recordings were stored with password protection and according to an anonymized code system. All transcription and translation files were kept anonymous for coding and analysis.
: Informed written consent was obtained from each individual prior to interview and respondents were told that participation was voluntary, and they could stop at any time. If participants were not able to read verbal consent was obtained, this was agreed by the ethics committee. Participants received a small gift as compensation for their time.
