We believe that this manuscript is appropriate for publication by Photonic Sensor. We have no conflicts of interest to disclose. Authors carried out the studies of photonics technology for radar application in details. The summary of photonics discovery timeline has been displayed from early days to modern days. All the available techniques of radio frequency generation, modulation, transportation, optical detection, conversion and measurements are summarized in this article. Also, different types of the photonics radar architecture and some important applications are discussed. At last, a brief description of quantum radar architecture and functionalities is written.
