: The animal study in this work has been approved by the Institute Animal Ethics Committee (IAEC), Jamia Hamdard University (New Delhi, India). Sixty female Balb/c mice, 5–6 weeks (25–30 g) were obtained from Central Animal House Facility (CAHF) of Jamia Hamdard, New Delhi (Registration number: 173/GO/ReBi/S/2000/CPCSEA, 28th January 2000; Approval number: 1807). Balb/c mice used in the present investigation are the only internationally accepted efficient models for these studies. The animals were kept at standard conditions of temperature (25 ± 2 °C) and relative humidity (55 ± 5%) with artificial lighting, the photoperiod being 12 h light and 12 h dark. For feeding, a conventional laboratory diet was used with an unlimited supply of drinking water.
: This study involved animal experiments only. All procedures performed were in accordance with the ethical standards of the institution at which the studies were conducted and were approved by the Central Animal House Facility (CAHF) of Jamia Hamdard. Efforts were made to minimize animal suffering and to follow all relevant guidelines for the care and use of laboratory animals.
