: This study was granted approval from the Department of Education and Training (Approval number: 2019_004149) and the Monash University Human Research Ethics Committee (Project ID: 20139). The study was conducted in the context of Professor Marilyn Fleer’s Australian Research Council Laureate Programmatic research ‘STEM concept formation in-home and play-based settings’ (Monash University Human Research Ethics Committee Project ID: 19778; Department of Education and Training approval number: 2019_004125).
: The researcher demonstrated an understanding of the ethics by opting for voluntary participation in implementing the Conceptual Playworld, which neutralised the possible power dynamics by demonstrating collaboration and choice provided to the participants. Ethics approval for the study was gained from Monash University Human Research Ethics Committee (Project ID 20139). Moreover, because the early childhood education centre was based in Victoria, ethics approval was requested from the Victorian Department of Education and Training (Approval number: 2019_004149). Additional documents were prepared, such as cover letters, explanatory statements and informed consent forms for centre staff and families (can be provided upon request). The confidentiality of the participants was ensured, and it was explained that the study would not pose any foreseeable harm to the participants. The study followed the guidelines of the Monash University Human Research Ethics Committee and the Victorian Department of Education and Training with respect to the participants’ recruitment, consent, confidentiality, and privacy. Pseudonyms were used for the participants to ensure confidentiality.
