: The study was performed with the permission of the Chico Mendes Institute for Biodiversity Conservation [ICMBio] (SISBIO permit no. 46746-1) of the Brazilian Ministry of the Environment and in accordance with the country’s legislation. The bee specimens were collected in the field without depleting the original colonies and the experiments were carried out in the laboratory. Although some stingless bee species are included on the Brazilian list of endangered species, the species that were the focus of this study are neither protected nor endangered species.
