: Preparation of this selective review did not involve the collection of original research data from human participants. We reviewed and synthesized the existing literature (as identified in the article), derived our conclusions, and provided our recommendations for combining lifestyle modification with anti-obesity medications. In the absence of collecting original data, preparation of the present selective review was not examined by an institutional review board, consistent with the policies of the University of Pennsylvania and other academic institutions.
: This article cites several first authored papers by TAW, AMC, JST, and JMJ which describe the results of randomized clinical trials of obesity management interventions. In all cases, the studies were reviewed and approved by institutional review boards at the authors' home institutions (University of Pennsylvania for TAW, AMC and JST and University of Pittsburgh for JMJ). The studies were performed in accordance with the ethical standards as laid down in the 1964 Declaration of Helsinki and its later amendments or comparable ethical standards.
