: The research was conducted as part of the project ‘FAIRFISH: Hidden Hunger, Forgotten Food’, European Research Council, Starting Grant number 759457. The project obtained the appropriate research ethics approval from the Faculty of Science and Technology Research Ethics Committee (FSTREC), Lancaster University in June 2019, and with latest amendments approved in March 2021. The ethics approval form from Lancaster was submitted to the National Commission for Science Technology, and Innovation (NACOSTI) as part of the application for research license to conduct research in Kenya. The license obtained (License number: NACOSTI/P/22/15038) ensured compliance with ethical research standards in Kenya.
