The Johns Hopkins University Bloomberg School of Public Health Institutional Review Board also reviewed the protocol and determined that members of the JHSPH research team were not involved in human subjects research because they did not have direct contact with participants or access to personal identifiers.
: Interviewers obtained verbal informed consent from all participants by reading a consent form in Arabic outlining the purpose of the assessment, intended use of results, confidentiality, and the voluntary nature of participation. Potential respondents were informed that no identifying information would be recorded on the survey instrument or reported and that they had the right to decline to participate, stop the interview at any time, or to decline to answer any question.
