: The research subjects enrolled in this study were admitted to Xin Hua Hospital affiliated to Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine from 2013 to 2015. Informed consent has been obtained from the patients. We analyzed the data of the subjects during hospitalization. The purpose of our study was to assess the prognostic value of NT-pro-BNP, CRP or the combination of both in selected sepsis patients older than 75 years old in medical ICU patients. The study protocol as well as the application form was fully reviewed and we have certified that this study did not raise any issues of patient risk. We have also certified that the study was in accordance with the Declaration of Helsinki.
: The study was approved by Shanghai Jiaotong University Xinhua Hospital Ethics Committee (XHEC2011-002) and was conducted in accordance with the Declaration of Helsinki. This was an observational study and all laboratory indices observed were those commonly measured for all patients during the stay; therefore, the need for written informed consent was waived by the ethics review board.
