: This study, part of the Birjand Longitudinal Aging Study (BLAS) in Birjand, Iran, received ethical approval from the Birjand University of Medical Sciences (IR.BUMS.Rec.1397.282) and Tehran University of Medical Sciences’ Endocrine and Metabolism Research Institute (IR.TUMS.EMRI.REC.1396.00158). All procedures followed the Declaration of Helsinki. Informed consent was obtained from all participants; for those with cognitive impairment (Abbreviated Mental Test Score < 7), consent was obtained from a close relative or legal guardian.
