: The study was reviewed by three ethical bodies which included the Uganda Virus Research Institute Institutional Review Board (Reference number: GC/127/962), the Uganda National Council for Science and Technology (Reference number: SS1874ES), and finally by the TASO Institutional Review Board that warranted the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between TASO and the principal investigator.
: The participants offered written assent, and their caregivers provided additional consent before participating in the study. All research assistants received Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and CITI (Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative) training. Data collection tools were translated into Luganda and back translated into English by experts from the Institute of Languages at Makerere University. Luganda is the most widely used language in the study area.
