: The protocol was approved by the Institutional Ethics Committee (IEC) of SRM School of Public Health (SPH) SRMIST. The Institutional Ethical Committee recommended obtaining oral consent based on the research protocol. All investigations have been conducted according to the Declaration of Helsinki. Oral assent and written consent were obtained from the study subjects. All study participants verbally agreed to participate after receiving full information about the research. The epidemiologist, public health professionals, the general public, and the research officer reviewed the study protocols and interview guidelines before they were given to the Irula tribe population. No interviews were undertaken without the consent of either an individual or a village panchayat leader. To improve community and stakeholder participation on the ground, the tools developed were translated into Tamil.
