: Ethical clearance for the study was obtained from the Ghana Health Service Ethics Review Committee (No: GHS-ERC026/02/19) before commencement of the work. Permission was also obtained from the AMA and the managers of the various transport terminals from which participants were recruited. Written informed consent was obtained from all study participants before enrolment into the study. Participants who were found to have moderate risk for dependence on tramadol were given counseling and educated on how they could stop using the drug. Those found to be at high risk of dependence were referred to the Addictive Disease Unit of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital for further diagnosis and management.
