: I was one of the founding editors of this journal from 2009 to 2014 or so. I have worked and collaborated in one way or another with several of the authors who will be contributing to this special volume, all of whom I have invited to contribute. Chen Jianfu and I were colleagues at La Trobe University. Fu Hualing has contributed to other volumes I have edited. Susan Finder worked at Freshfields in Hong Kong around the time I was at Freshfields in Beijing. But there is no personal or professional conflict of interest with respect to my own contribution to this volume or with respect to the participation of the other contributors, all of whom are leaders in the field and experts in the areas they are writing about. I have made no promises with respect to publication of their submissions and informed them of the journal’s policies with respect to the review process.
