: Eight of the authors (Chris, Natalie, Rebecca, Sue, Cynthia, Susan, Rae and David) were involved in writing the Labour English Curriculum 2023. One of those was employed at the Ministry of Education at the time (Chris) . One of the writers is employed at the New Zealand Council for Educational Research (Sue) . That writer did not take part in the third and fourth discussions focused on the National-led English Draft Curriculum Years 7–13 (2025b) draft to avoid any conflict of interest with ongoing projects.
