: After approval of the Institutional Research Ethics Committee Guidelines (Faculty of Medicine, Suez Canal University) for the care and use of animals, 30 female Wistar albino rats aged 6–7 months and weighing between 200 and 250 g and 10 male albino rats, 4–6 weeks old, weighing around 150 g, were brought from the National Research Center for Experimental Animals, Cairo. One week before the beginning of the experiment, the animals were acclimatized to their place and placed in their cages (one animal/cage). To ensure compliance with ethical considerations, rats were subjected to general anesthesia with intramuscular injection of 75 mg/kg ketamine before intravitreal injection.
