: According to Swedish law when ethics approval should be obtained the following is stated (translation from the Swedish ethics committee). “The Act shall be applied to research carried out in Sweden about the research: Involves a physical intervention, on both a living and a deceased person. Takes place with a method that aims to affect a person physically or psychologically or involves an obvious risk of harming the research person physically or psychologically. Is performed on biological material from a living person and can be traced back to that person. Performed on biological material that has been taken for medical purposes from a deceased person and can be traced back to that person. Includes the processing of sensitive personal data or information about crimes.” The experiment did not do fulfil these criteria and therefore an ethical approval was judged not to be required.
