: In addition to his university position, Andrew Orton is seconded part-time as Director of the William Leech Research Fund, an ecumenical funder of research into Christian social action in the North East of England; he is also a lay member of the Methodist Church in Britain. Joanildo Burity is also a lay member of the Anglican Episcopal Church in Brazil. The authors do not identify or are aware of any competing interests regarding the present work.
