: An ethics approval was not required as per the Kerala Agricultural University guidelines and national regulations. However, the national-level Selection Committee constituted by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research, New Delhi (ICAR) for screening the ICAR Emeritus Scientists applications (2017) reviewed and approved the study. Field research work in the Reserved Forests/Protected Areas of Kerala State (Thrissur, Ernakulam, Idukki, and Malappuram Districts) was permitted by the Kerala State Forest Department. Verbal informed consent was also obtained from the owners of all sampled coconut and rubber plantations according to institutional and national requirements and no minors (non-adults) participated in this research.
