: The plant materials used in this study were collected as experimental seed/grain materials from the National Cereals Research Institute- NCRI, Badeggi, Nigeria. NCRI is the Nigerian government owned research institute with the national research mandate for the development of the two crops (soybean and sesame) used in this study as part of its eight (8) mandate crops, others being; rice, sugarcane, castor, acha/fonio and stevia. Seeds of the crops’ varieties were released from the institute’s foundation gene bank in line with institutional and national guidelines. The plant materials were released to the first author of this manuscript who is a research scientist in the employment of the institute. The seed varieties were released to him (1 st author) as part of training support for his PhD program under the 2nd and 3rd authors of this manuscript in their affiliated institution which is a Nigerian technology-based university. Authors therefore, declare that, the collection of plants used in the study from which the manuscript was drafted complies with the Nigerian national experimental plant materials guidelines with no need for further affirmation.
