: Ethical considerations were paramount throughout the survey process. Informed consent was obtained from all participants before their involvement in the study. Participants were fully informed about the purpose of the study, the nature of their participation, and their rights as participants. To protect the privacy of participants, all personal data collected during the survey was anonymized. Given the rural setting of the study, local customs and cultural practices were acknowledged and respected throughout the research process. Efforts were made to engage with community leaders and obtain their support and guidance. This helped to ensure that the study was conducted in a manner that was culturally sensitive and respectful of the local context. The study protocol and all related materials were reviewed and approved by the Ethics Committee of Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology, Kenya. This approval was obtained before the commencement of the survey, ensuring that the research adhered to the highest ethical standards (Ethical approval number 7/16/ERC/01/20 − 18), in accordance with the JOOUST/DVC-RIO/ERC/E2.
