: All methods used in the study were carried out in accordance with relevant guidelines and regulations including the Declaration of Helsinki and the National Code for Health Research Ethics in Nigeria. Ethical approval for the study was obtained from the Research Ethics Committee of Ebonyi State University Abakaliki, Nigeria. (Reference number: EBSU/DRIC/UREC/Vol.08/003). The students were required to sign a written informed consent form before participating in the study. Participation in the study was voluntary and all the information provided through the questionnaire was kept confidential. The questionnaires had no identifiers and the students were assured that they were free to withdraw from the study without any form of victimization even after giving consent. The students with severe anxiety and depressive symptoms were referred to the psychiatry unit of Alex Ekwueme Federal University Teaching Hospital Abakaliki, Nigeria where the students receive their clinical training. Each respondent in the study signed a written informed consent form before participation.
