: This research involved interviews to collect expert opinions on key performance indicators (KPIs) used by research institutes in Sri Lanka. The research protocol was exempted from requiring formal ethical clearance following the approval of the research proposal by the Wayamba University Senate Research and Higher Degree Committee, under registration number WU/SRHDC/PHD/2018/98, per the committee bylaws. To safeguard the anonymity and confidentiality of the interviewees, pseudonyms were employed throughout the research process. No significant ethical concerns arose, as the interviews were conducted online and focused solely on gathering professional insights based on the expertise, research experience, and informed judgment of the participants, without involving any proprietary or sensitive data.
: Before and after the interviews, the interviewees provided written/verbal consent to publish selected excerpts from their responses, with their identities remaining confidential.
