: This study was approved by the University of Malawi. While approved by the institution, the author mentioned in the research proposal that ethical standards would be followed in the study since the study involved human participants. The author ensured following the ethical standards in accordance with Helsinki Declaration while the institution did not have an ethical review board. The identities of the respondents were protected. Their privacy and any sensitive information were also protected during data collection and data analysis phase. Informed consents were obtained from participants. Being aware of the sensitivity of informal trade, respondents’ names were not collected during interviews and verbal consent was obtained by the interviewer. The participants were allowed to withdraw their statements and to discontinue the interview anytime.
