: This project was conducted with the verbal approval of the District Health Education Officer (HEO), in lieu of formal written approval from the District Health Authority (DHA) and District Health Development and Monitoring Centre (DHDMC), following their protocol for community-based initiatives. Participants were fully informed about the study’s details, including its purpose, procedures, risks, benefits, confidentiality measures, and their right to withdraw without consequences. Their consent was obtained voluntarily after understanding these aspects.

Yusuff Adebayo Adebisi is a Kevin Molloy Fellow funded by K A C. K A C is a public health organization with a focus on tobacco harm reduction and is funded with a grant from Global Action to End Smoking (formerly known as Foundation for Smoke-Free World), an independent, US. nonprofit 501(c)(3) grantmaking organization, accelerating science-based efforts worldwide to end the smoking epidemic. Through September 2023, the organization received charitable gifts from PMI Global Services, Inc (“PMI”) while operating as an entirely independent entity. In October 2023, the organization ended its prior funding agreement with PMI. Global Action has since adopted a formal policy that it will not seek or accept funding from any industry that manufactures tobacco products or non-medicinal nicotine products. Marewa Glover received a K A C honorarium to provide mentorship to Nazia Shaheen. Marewa Glover’s role in this project is unrelated to research grants she has independently received from Global Action to End Smoking for research. Global Action to End Smoking had no role in designing, implementing, data analysis, or interpretation of the study results, nor did Global Action to End Smoking edit or approve any presentations or publications from the study.
