: The research protocol has been reviewed and approved by National Health Research Ethics Committee of Nigeria, ensuring compliance with all relevant ethical guidelines and regulations. The plants used in the study is owned to the breeder who generated them. He is Prof. I.E. Otuokere (one of the authors) who is the Professor in College of Physical and Applied Sciences of the Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike during the time the experiments and the study were taken place. Therefore, the collection of the plants used in the study complies with local or national guidelines with no need for further affirmation. The plant material used in this study was based upon work supported by the Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike under Decree No 48 of 2nd November 1992.
