: Cowpea [Vigna unguiculata (L.) Walp.] lines used for this study was evaluated at the experimental field of Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching and Research Farm, (OAUT&RF), Ile – Ife and all methods were carried out by relevant guidelines and regulations of Obafemi Awolowo University. The materials used were TVu1509, TVNu1249, Sanzi, Ife Brown and VITA7 from International Institute of Tropical Agriculture IITA, Ibadan Nigeria that was approved by the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching and Research Farm, (OAUT&RF), Ile – Ife and the collection of the plants used in the study complies with local or national guidelines with no need for further affirmation.
