: The plant used in the present study Salacia oblonga Wall belongs to the family Celastraceae. It is a woody climber distributed in the Southern regions of India. The plants were collected from Western Ghats, Karnataka, India and authenticated by Dr. N. Siddamallayya, Research Officer, Regional Research Institute, Bangalore, (India) as Salacia oblonga Wall (RRCBI 7881). The plant collection used in the study complies with local or national requirements without the need for further verification. The bacterial culture S. aureus (MTCC NO-15029) was obtained from MTCC centre, Institute of Microbial Technology, Chandigrah INDIA.
