: The plant material, C. melo JP 82415, was obtained from the NARO (National Agriculture and Food Research Organization) Genebank in Japan. This accession was legally collected approximately 50 years ago on Megi-jima Island in the Seto Inland Sea, Kagawa Prefecture, Japan, by Dr. Fujishita of Osaka Prefecture University, and was subsequently deposited in the Genebank. The weedy melon is not native to Japan and is not protected under any national laws or local ordinances. It is also not listed on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species. In addition, approval from research ethics committees was not required for this study, as the experimental work involved an unregulated invertebrate species. Therefore, the procedures used in this study comply with all applicable local and national guidelines, and no further ethical affirmation was necessary.
