Ethics approval and consent to participate: The plant material (Cochlospermum religiosum (L.) Alston) used in the present study was collected from natural populations located in the South Balaghat Forest Division, Balaghat Circle, Madhya Pradesh, India (21.95922° N, 79.94402° E; ~540 m asl). The collection of plant material was carried out in accordance with relevant national and state forest regulations and institutional guidelines. Prior permission for the collection of plant material was obtained from the concerned forest authorities of the Madhya Pradesh Forest Department. The plant species was identified by Manish Kumar Vijay (Seed Biologist, ICFRE–Tropical Forest Research Institute, Jabalpur, India). A voucher seed specimen has been prepared and deposited in the Ex-situ Seed Gene Bank of the Tropical Forest Research Institute (TFRI), Jabalpur, India, under voucher accession number TFRI087. All procedures involving plant material complied with institutional, national, and international guidelines for plant research. Consent to participate: Not applicable.
