: Without understanding the adaptive genetic diversity of at-risk conifer forest tree populations, there can be no successful management and restoration of conifer species impacted by climate change, invasive species, or forest fragmentation. An assessment of the current status of North American conifer genetic resources is a first step. We present this status report along with a call to action for researchers and managers to develop a coordinated protocol for North American at-risk conifer conservation and restoration.
