Declarations
:
: The study protocol was approved by the medical ethical research committee Leiden-Den Haag-Delft and was performed in accordance with the ethical standards as laid down in the 1964 Declaration of Helsinki and its later amendments.
: Adolescents aged 10–18 years with a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) > 0.0 g/L were selected using the Diagnosis Treatment Combination code ‘alcohol intoxication’, which is used to declare the costs of provided treatments of patients with alcohol intoxication. Waiver of consent was approved by the medical ethical research committee Leiden-Den Haag-Delft for the use of non-identifiable electrocardiogram data of adolescents that provided written informed consent, and written parental consent for adolescents younger than 16 years of age, for registration to the Dutch Pediatric Surveillance Unit (NSCK) during the acute treatment or outpatient follow-up. Since 2007, the NSCK has been collecting data on adolescents admitted for alcohol intoxication, such as demographic characteristics, vital functions and laboratory results, and prior substance use patterns.
