: We could not elucidate the mechanism underlying the ability of øEc_Makalu_002 and øEc_Makalu_003 to lyse <i>K. pneumoniae</i> (NK and K23) as this was beyond the scope of this project. Further research is required to elucidate the mechanism for inter-genus host lysis capability which may help us engineer synthetic phages with the ability to lyse wider hosts.
