: On behalf of all authors, the corresponding author states that there is no conflict of interest. The tool which was used to test the Ability EI model (QEPro) was developed with funding from Badenoch & Clark, a subsidiary of The Adecco Group, as part of an academic research project. Neither the test, nor the data used in this research to validate the tool, belong to the company that funded the research project.
: Our study involved data from human participants. The Scientific Committee of emlyon business school decided in its meeting February 17th, 2019 to approve our study retrospectively. The Scientific Committee does not believe that the nature of the research design needs to go to a second stage and to be reviewed by a formal ethics committee. The Scientific Committee believes we have followed the standards for good and ethical research applied in our field. We, the authors, certify that the study was performed in accordance with the ethical standards as laid down in the 1964 Declaration of Helsinki and its later amendments or comparable ethical standards.
: We believe our study involves very minimal or no risk. Participants were informed, as an introduction to data collection, of the length of the questionnaires administered (1.30 h), the aim of the study (to validate a new EI tool dedicated to managers), that no EI scores will be provided once the questionnaires were completed (as it is the construction phase of our tool). One of the authors offered a webinar and a conference (at emlyon) to debrief some initial results of the study with participants who wanted to. Also, a few weeks after the questionnaire was completed, all participants got access to a free video providing some tricks to help them regulate their emotions in management situations.
: Before filling the questionnaires, participants were informed that their data will be treated confidentially. Names, phone numbers, credit cards numbers, social security numbers were NOT asked. Gender, age, mother tongue, types of diploma, length of Professional experience, the size and activity sector of the company they work for, seniority in their company and seniority at their current position, the number of persons they supervise directly and indirectly, the type and length of skills trainings they followed, if they were/are coached, were asked. The email address the participants provided was only used to send them the URL access to the tips and tricks videos.
